What Is the Process of Metal Spinning?

Metal spinning is a special forming method suitable for manufacturing rotationally symmetrical parts, especially hemispherical thin-shell metal parts. The internal diameter of the parts formed by metal spinning should be controlled within 2.5m.

Specific process steps of metal spinning

‌Preparation phase‌: First, fix the cut round metal sheet on the machine mandrel.

‌Rotation phase‌: The mandrel drives the round metal sheet to rotate at high speed, and the tool with the rotating wheel begins to press the metal surface.

‌Forming phase‌: During the rotation process, the metal sheet gradually fits the inner wall of the mold through the pressing of the rotating wheel to complete the forming.

‌Demolding phase‌: After the forming is completed, the mandrel is removed, and the top and bottom of the part are cut off for demolding.

It should be noted that before metal spinning, the workpiece usually needs to be annealed, especially when the workpiece undergoes large deformation during the processing, two or three annealing treatments may be required.‌
